Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy session discussion

1. What is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario? What is a Canadian Certified Counsellor?

A Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) is a therapist who has completed advanced training and is in the process of supervised clinical practice. I am in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and follow strict professional and ethical standards.

A Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) is a professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association who is recognised as having completed advanced training and supervised clinical practice. Maintaining a CCC designation required ongoing education and adherence to strict professional and ethical standards. CCCs are recognised as mental health professionals across Canada.

2. Is therapy covered by insurance?

Many private insurance plans cover psychotherapy services provided by Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario and/or Certified Canadian Counsellors. Coverage varies by provider, so it’s best to check with your insurance company directly. I’m happy to provide receipts for reimbursement and verify eligibility for direct billing. Even if your therapy is not covered by a private insurance plan, you can keep your receipts for claiming healthcare expenses on your income taxes.

3. How much does therapy cost? Do you offer a sliding scale?

My standard fee is $135 per session. To keep therapy affordable and accessible, I offer a sliding scale based on financial need. Please mention this in your Request to Book form if affordability is a concern.

4. What types of therapy do you provide?

I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Committment Therapy, Trauma-informed care, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. These approaches are evidence-based and focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and creating stronger, more secure relationships, with yourself and with others.

5. Do you work with individuals as well as couples?

Yes! I provide therapy for both individuals and couples. Whether you’re navigating personal challenges or working on relationship concerns, I can help.

6. What is Walk & Talk therapy?

Walk & Talk therapy takes place outdoors, often in Cedarvale Ravine in Toronto. Moving together in nature can make sessions feel more relaxed and help clients feel more open and grounded.

7. Do you offer in-home therapy sessions?

Yes. For clients in the Toronto area, I offer in-home sessions. This can be especially helpful for parents, caregivers, those with disabilities or anyone who feels more comfortable in their own space.

8. Do you provide therapy online?

Yes. I offer secure, private sessions via HIPPA-compliant telehealth software for individuals and couples across Canada. Online therapy can be a convenient option if you have a busy schedule or live outside Toronto.

9. Who do you work with?

I welcome individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQ+, polyamorous, neurodivergent, and culturally diverse communities. I provide affirming and inclusive therapy for all.

10. What can I expect in my first session?

The first session is about getting to know you and understanding your goals. We’ll explore what brought you to therapy, and I’ll answer any questions about the process. Together, we’ll decide on a treatment plan that feels safe, supportive, and aligned with your needs.
